yes. you have no idea how hard it is getting an album that long on streaming services by yourself. NO ONE wants to let you have that long an album. every distributor has their own rules, like with some you can have as many tracks as you want but only 2 hours long, and everyone online says they will never get around to releasing your stuff because the customer service is so shit, and others only allow 30-35 tracks tops, some need you to have certain credentials, its all such fucking SHITE and i HATE having to deal with this fucking nonsense. the fact that this is the norm for how music is listened to makes me want to tear my fucking hair out. after doing a bunch of research that i had to get extremely inebriated to do because i couldn't stand the thought that i was wasting my time dealing with this, i found that no one was going to let me upload this album without me having to talk with some people first, so i emailed around as many distributors as i could saying that i was a 'real artist' (fucking hell. this was the absolute worst) and not some sort of spammer and that i 'had pedigree to an extent on spotify already' (FUCK) in order to persuade some admins that i just so happened to have a really long album i wanted to upload. no one replied to me for weeks, until finally, the one place i already had a paid account with, distrokid, said they were willing to give me 60 tracks. i asked if i could get it up to 64 (after thinking about which tracks i could cut) and they said no, so that's why 'gotta have light and shade' exists. absolute fucking joke. i was even considering making a wall i was volume one and two JUST to get it onto streaming but i was so vehemently against that the more i thought about it and im glad i didnt resort to that, because that would have been way too fucking messy. so 60 tracks it was, i thought fine, thats not too bad, maybe even it's good that the bandcamp/youtube release has some more goodies as im assuming the most people will hear it on spotify and so the people who discover it the BETTER way or dig a little deeper after hearing it on spotify may be pleasantly surprised to find more tracks on them. and yet, through all this vitriol and disgust, it took distrokid ONE DAY to get it up on streaming. ONE DAY!! i was so insanely confused and elated simultaneously when i got the email that it was live as it was a massive weight off my shoulders, but now i was expecting some sort of massive backlash since it will reach a wider audience, but i just knuckled down and drugged myself silly after making the instagram post and let time pass and shut my brain off so i could cope with the idea that i was 'back' now

What is the craziest live show experience you have had? Not you performing, as in going to shows and seeing something crazy or interesting happen.
around july/august of last year, my girlfriend and i went to this club rave event that was chock full of people dressed insanely well with the most ridiculous styling that it was intimidating. we got to talking to this one russian person who had these gigantic eyes with vantablack contacts in them, and their eyelashes were superglued to below their eyebrows. their entire body was completely covered in tattoos, you couldn't see any of their skin apart from on their face, where i dont think they had any. they were going on and on about 'how cool' we looked and getting really close up to our faces whilst also not really being able to speak much english - they explained that they didn't really know how they got here but nonetheless they were performing later (they also really, really wanted some of our ketamine). i think i asked them why they chose to superglue their eyelashes (like, they couldn't fucking blink, it makes me squirm just thinking about it) and they said something like you need to try everything at least once.
anyway, fast forward an hour or so, this person is starting their performance. it starts with some sort of extremely maudlin russian opera song at an ear piercing volume while they just writhed about on the floor, at which point they were essentially fully exposed because they were wearing a very short skirt and no underwear. they start screaming along to the opera into the mic for a few minutes, after which some very fast sort of rave extratone stuff starts playing for about 20 seconds before it cuts out. they then after 10 seconds or so realised that it has cut out, and head back behind the DJ decks on the stage looking very confused. everyone there is just stood in silence watching them, anticipating what will happen next. for a good 3 minutes or so there is complete silence while they press some buttons on the DJ controllers, after which someone comes up to join them to try and troubleshoot. what feels like an eternity passes, still in silence, until they just look up at the crowd, and after looking around at us, they just say 'thank you' and walk off. worth reiterating this was a pretty standard club rave night

i have an extreme love hate relationship with those minutes/hours before when you have to get up and the bed is at its comfiest. for perspective, it now takes me about 50 minutes to walk into work, which is a walk i really enjoy. being in the office is wonderful too as i always get more work done, i get more exercise, the food there is free, in general going into the office is the best thing i can do to start the day right. but i only do it 1/20 times thereabouts, because it is nigh on impossible for me not to choose being in bed for another hour and working from home instead, and then opting to go into work at lunchtime, but then spending another hour in bed for lunch, then boom ive worked the entire day in bed. so my favourite part of the day is simultaneously when i stay in bed and when i dont stay in bed

thank you!! im really happy with it. honestly it wasn't that painful, the initial one was perhaps the worst, but that really was tiny and since you know the pain will be over in a matter of seconds its not hard to go through at all. besides, since ive had mine increased in size quite a few times, ive always looked forward to doing the size increase every couple of months or so (since im trying to get it essentially as big as possible) because it's such a rush each time now. i basically go for the biggest increment possible each time that wouldn't fuck my septum up enough, and the general discomfort you have for a few hours or so after getting as big a stretch you can is obviously so worth it for how it looks

thank you! as you can tell i had a LOT of stuff just lying around that i didn't really have any plans for. it was all sort of under the umbrella of "once the big album is done, i can attend to these" (that being the one i was working on starting sep 2023). simply put, i came to terms with the fact that that album will never be released in any capacity because i am simply never revisiting those project files. lord knows ive tried but i just end up sitting catatonic in front of them for what feels like an eternity before conceding to closing them and feeling "that void" in the pit of my chest again. fuck it, it's just not worth it. and it was even better than the miracle in transit stuff, what a shame for all of you!
in terms of structure i kind of did just whatever felt right, i cant really explain it, but it was a lot of fun. it really felt like i was getting into the it is what it is spirit again, which was such a huge buzz and encouraged me to actually get this thing finished and released, because working on anything 'naked flames' related was such a horrible and arduous endeavor that it would not have been possible without some sort of huge external magical push that would get me to shut up the voices i heard in my head whenever i attempted to return to myself, as well as the relentless rumination over thinking "does anyone even fucking want this stuff? who the fuck am i to put myself into the world again?" and the millions of branches that go from there. but thanks to my life being (somehow) the best it has ever been since mid last year, i just one day got into putting some sort of tracklist together in some sort of out of body state and before i knew it, i had something, and i didn't just want to ditch it immediately afterwards, which i cant begin to describe how that felt

impossible just to pick ONE favourite as i simply dont work like that. some favourites fit better moods than others. im very very happy with how wall i was came together, like i really didnt think i had it in me to ever release anything ever again until a couple months ago when all the stars in my life aligned and somehow i was just ready to put everything into one place and throw perfectionism out the fucking window, i mean, how the fuck can i get caught up in perfectionism surrounding my 'philosophy' when i have the reputation that i have now? its an extremely bizarre silver lining. but you also have to bare in mind that naturally i have changed a fuck ton over time which reflects itself in any project i do, and thats a thing that only I can fully see, but maybe you can feel. what i mean by this is something like 247 365 might have represented my 'true reflection' at the time of making it, and indeed i think that is how i felt at the time, but fucking hell, everything from 2023 backwards feels so fucking alien to me at this point. i know it was me who made those tracks but my life was so wildly different that it feels disingenuous to call any of them a reflection of who i am now even if there are traces here and there. i feel it would be impossible for me to make anything like those releases again.
while i think no hate island is good, and i will always be fond of the stuff like black front door and it is what it is blah blah, can i look back on them and think 'yeah i nailed that' considering how different i am as a person now? i dont know

probably something like the last track on moonwalking fingers but idk, it was so long ago and my process of making things has shifted so much that i can't even remember exactly what it was like to make that older stuff... but you're really having fun when you just dont give a fuck about what youre recording and youre experimenting and just picking up things as you go along. thats the main thing when it comes to getting anything done - just fucking around and believing in yourself that you have the tenacity to stick around to wait until magic strikes, but you can't think about it like that because if you're waiting for magic you're waiting for godot. its like when youre in a dream and you realise youre dreaming and its like oh shit, im dreaming, i can do whatever i want here, but if you get too excited you get icarus'd and wake up - if you really start taking the thing you're doing seriously like oh fuck im onto something you might start getting anal about it and cherry pick certain parts that you dont like about it instead of just enjoying the moment and actually making a thing out of it. the best stuff always seems to happen when you dont care, youre just recording a one-off live session into audacity that you'll listen to on your phone later to hear how it sounds and then boom, it will not get better than that take you just did. the capturing of the flow state is the lottery i must partake in when it comes to live mixing

hi!! i dont know if you'll get this but i had some stuff i wanted to say to you. i will keep this as brief as i can, but i want to thank you for being the creative individual you are. your art and music has been there for me thru some fairly rough parts of my life, and it's not really an exaggeration to say that it's kept me going. i really haven't found another artist whose work has been so soothing to my soul. to me, your music feels like slowly watching the stars come out in the night sky, the joy of knowing that a new beginning is just on the horizon. that feeling when you cuddle close with someone who matters a lot to you and it feels like the whole world could melt away. that comforting stage in between being awake and asleep where all you can really think about is the fact that you're here in the present moment and it's all going to be ok some day.

Bear with me here while I try to explain what it is im asking about..
Ive noticed on some albums like "Binc Rinse Repeat" that the songs have this sort of *static* layer to them. Almost like the audio quality is lower. Or perhaps something like a lower bit rate?
When you released "Miracle in Transit" I noticed right away that the audio quality was super crisp. None of the songs had that "Static" overlay that I mentioned.
My question is... was that fuzzy/static layer in your tracks from older songs an intentional design choice?
And i want to end off noting- I fell in love with those older songs right away, I think that lower sound quality and static texture is SUPER charming and lovely to listen to. I hope you understand what Im referring to. Apologies if not.

only thing that stuck out to me, and you might have done this on purpose, is that some of the source material, like the leap frog thing - it could do with the aspect ratio being stretched to fill the frame in my opinion. personally i dont like hard edges at the end of video frames so if i have something that's of an aspect ratio different to the project aspect ratio i just scale it to fit, but that's just personal preference. just keep doing what you are doing, obviously you've seen you can get results very fast with some chroma key and enticing source material, so i'm not going to tell you just to do what i do because i don't think the world needs another me by any stretch of the imagination, so just keep fiddling around and your own style will evolve from the things that gel with you the most. but most importantly have fun with it

whats the most recent revelation you had in your mind about anything
last night i got this crazy feeling after watching a limmy clip wherein he was reminiscing over his old times getting a taxi to the horseshoe bar in Glasgow for a pub lunch and how the current menu looks like shite - it dawned on me i was living in a time period where i knew at some point later i would reflect on it fondly (which is so obvious as this has always happened to me but this NEVER happens within the actual moment). specifically i was looking around my room from my bed thinking wow, i am currently in this FURNISHED room, and will be for another good few months, and once this room becomes unfurnished and i move out, it will never be furnished in the same way again. and i really have to appreciate it being mine while it lasts - and i really did feel that appreciation. and other things came along with it - the commutes, the meal deals, the non-stop working in the evenings, the constantly listening to as much music as i can get my hands on during the day, my current relationship, hanging out with my closest friends on the weekend, suddenly it all seemed so amazing in the present, and i can't overstate how ridiculous it actually feels to appreciate it as it is happening instead of in retrospect

it's highly unlikely. i've realised i have this sort of odd relationship with my older music spanning late 2015-2018 wherein i absolutely don't want to outright disown it at all, but i'd rather not officially post them if that makes sense. i think they have their rightful place in fan uploads, in the sense that the only people that are likely to hear them are people actively looking for them because they are genuinely interested. so whilst i definitely like quite a lot of that early stuff (particularly the three you named) i think they've found their rightful place where they are. i'd rather not touch them up again since i think part of the charm of them would be the extremely amateurish nature of the mixing and composition hand in hand, plus i'd rather spend my time working on newer stuff. when it comes to anything up to and including iantos shrine though you can forget it. there's no way that's willingly ever going to be posted

what song scares you the most every time you listen
unfortunately im not often scared by music but when i am i get haunted for what feels like the rest of time. i've only heard flare gun part 3 by merzbow once and i dont think i can ever return to it again, which is odd because i usually don't have a hard time with that sort of thing (no spoilers for what happens in that track). also i've only heard the last track on pogrom's liberal cunt once and i never want to hear it again simply because that looped sample really got right under my skin, so much so that i really hope the guy who made it has something really horrible happen in his life, which is a shame because the first three tracks on that album are fantastic.
actually now that i think about it, i used to be scared of nothing more than P.C. by boards of canada off the few old tunes tape, i remember the first time i heard it was my first dive into electronic music outside of stuff like Kid A and something felt really, really wrong. not just because of the moaning but the volume of it, the loop, the harshness of the background noise, the cover art, the innocent nature of it, everything truly fucked with my head to the point where i couldn't even listen to any track near the beginning of the tape in fear i would somehow get to P.C.. but that made the whole tape so so magical to me, to think that tracks like 5-9-78 and finity existed on a tape that could also make me feel so on edge i would throw up, it made it so so special. one day in college i told myself i would sit down in the library with my friends around and just listen to this shit and 'conquer' it, and i did even though it was fucking weird. i still get a bit of a weird remnant feeling from it over 10 years later

Really got into your music recently and I love it, especially Miracle in Transit. I was wondering what inspired your choice of sound for that album since I think it’s a lot different from other albums you have released? Would also love to know which artists influence/inspire your music the most? Thanks a ton!
i definitely didnt decide upon a certain sound to go for with the album, i just did what felt natural at the time. pan matsuri was the first one i got a live mix down for that i was blown away by, like it just completely dropped onto me in two evenings. i even have a note saying i worried that it was too good given it was so much better than the other WIPs i had for what at the time was called 'by some miracle' (none of which made it to the album). as it turns out, according to my notes i made, i somehow fucking made pan matsuri, tennessee transit, carrot car and taking the stairs all in the span of two weeks, i don't know what the actual fuck happened and to be honest i'm extremely envious of my past self for that - but i guess i just cottoned onto a certain sound and kept going. not doing lobit opened up a whole other world of sound too, along with all these tracks aside from carrot car being live mixes, meaning there's much more on-the-fly automation which makes the whole thing sound more fluid i suppose. i really did get so extremely lucky there - ive since learned whilst making this new album that i simply cant repeat the luck and breakneck speed at which i made those tracks, which i am currently beating myself up a lot for, but oh well. i really did get lucky.
in terms of inspiration the answer is almost always basic channel but ive realised a lot of inspiration is just from stuff that blew my mind as a kid like steely dan and my morning jacket

simsynth and sytrus, although nowadays i do worry about the mileage i have with them and if my listeners are sick of hearing them and expecting me to 'change it up'. i use fl10 at the moment which is skinned to look exactly like fl9 as much as possible, the only reason i use 10 now is because i need the 64 bit plugin support

What type of soundfonts do you use in your more dreamy music like the 'binc' series?
i didn't discover using soundfonts until i had almost finished making miracle in transit - i think it was january 2022 or something like that. my friend showed me this website im forgetting that has a bunch of soundfonts from old video games on it and i downloaded a fuck ton and used a bunch of sounds from there to make a track, i'll shove it in here at the top. you'll notice that live mix made way for the melodies that appear halfway through under every tree in england. with regards to binc tho, that's all simsynth, sytrus, and some video game sfx i got from sounds-resource

any thoughts on the making of pest control? that's one of my favorites of yours :)
it came together very nicely because it's a rework of a live mix from 2022 that was made in 2021. there's no samples in the original live mix, but what became pest control saw 3 key samples creep into it very nicely, all from separate tracks i had made before based entirely around each sample respectively, which i've noticed is how a lot of my finished tracks end up being made. like i will hear a certain sample and make a track around it but it doesn't really go anywhere, then another, and another, until it gets to a point where i know if i take elements of old tracks i can put them all into one thing and they work together nicely because i've understood in my head how i can work with them
what's quite funny though is how the final take that was used for pest control was really rushed and i just said fuck it use that one. i needed the track to be finished by a certain deadline for the PFE comp and i think it was right near the time everyone was getting their tracks in and i just opened up the project file, whacked out exactly what you hear in the final song without mixing it any better and called it a day. while i do like pest control, i definitely prefer the early version without samples much better. i was originally planning on including that version on the spotify version of it is what it is but decided against it

what's your preferred way of remembering / documenting a dream when you wake up? do you instantly jump to maya or do you draw/write/record a memo so you can save it for later?
going straight to maya is extremely rare since it just takes too long to get the fleeting memories of the dream into 3d space, i'd really have to have clung onto the entire thing to be able to do it justice and with such precision. used to write everything down but now it's mostly just voice memos, but i also tell my girlfriend basically all my dreams and she is insanely good at remembering them so now i share the memory load

hi Anton I strongly recommend going to therapy along with medication antidepressants get you going for sure they're a nice emotional support wheel but they tend to also make one feel more hollow emotionally like the thoughts you struggle with are still there just unable to reach your heart and those changes that will occur over the next couple months you should really talk to with someone you're not friends with that you don't have an emotional attachment to someone that doesn't have an emotional attachment to you but knows how to deal with it it could also be post trip depression ik that the time after january was probably the worst time of my life head wise after venting with my breakup and the last crippling months of school by abusing ketamine and taking spontaneous plane flights but each one of those genuinely makes you a little wiser in understanding yourself and more resilient more strong as you learn to accept your emotions for what they are and the logic emotion planes align again take care of yourself do something new talk to your best friends play a game you haven't played in a long time probably don't think about music making for a while (not confident in that suggestion) and time does the rest you'll be fine either way xoxo

it used to be like 90% melodies from my head but that's shifted as i've been sampling more. now occasionally i will make tracks purely off a melody in my head that i try to get down fast (carrot car for example) but a lot of the time i will whack a sample in that i sense will work and countermelodies will come to me or i'll just be humming something along and it works

something ive always admired about all your work is that it really feels like you have a presence on the internet. i feel like a lot your work is very "diy", and so it comes out very natural, personable, and alive. For things like your video diary series, were there insecurities that stopped you at all? did you just decide one day to use the internet as a vessel for uploading personal things? im curious about the mindset for it all.
it very much comes from bill wurtz's video diaries, i was simply like hey i can do that. i will admit originally it was some sort of vainty thing but it very quickly turned into an extremely useful and cathartic resource. unfortunately i've not maintained doing them for a very long time now and even the audio diaries are getting real sparse.

Would All Singing/All Dancing be something you'd want to put on vinyl or just solely on cassette?
maybe one day but no plans at the moment. vinyl unfortunately requires a lot of money and time to manufacture as you can only realistically order like 250 units for the cost per unit to be low enough to price the end product reasonably low enough and still get your money back. so it's something i would think about when im certain i could not just lose a bunch of money on unfortunately (i pitting music against money and volume of people who would buy but pragmatically this is just how it is im afraid)

needed to make a mix for an online fest no agreements was organising. had some tracks lying around on my computer and just mashed them together with some post production. this was still while i was in cambridge, and i remember after finishing it i went for an hour or so walk where i listened to it 4 times in a row and thought this is actually pretty good and i was proud of myself. cambridge at night obviously made the whole thing feel very sad and hopeless to me though. the music video portion is all rudimentary text effects i made in vegas because at the time my computer was broken and i had to use my thinkpad.

i'll skip over thinking 'how the fuck do you know about that channel its been gone for years' and just accept its probably on the internet archive somewhere (but even then... idk how you'd have found it since it's not linked to my current channel at all) and just say nah not really. it was just a dumping ground for things when i knew i wanted to have some sort of youtube presence but had no idea how. one tiny anecdote is i remember in 2015 seeing these old vaporwave tumblrs (i never actually used tumblr... i didnt really use any social media properly until covid started) and seeing these posts with a lot of interaction and this one specific blank banshee track with a picture of a girls tongue with a tab on it with a bunch of views, listening to the track and thinking 'how the fuck do i do that, how do i get popular doing what i do and do i need to make it sound like this in order to do that?' and that perhaps leading to me making youtube videos as well as an old tumlbr page hoping somehow it would gain traction because i had zero idea what the inner workings were for how anything was actually shared online. i just sort of thought maybe the key is just to post things. for the record, i still have zero clue how the fuck that works apart from ONE thing, and that thing is that you have to meet and talk to people and don't have expectations as well as take opportunities when you are given them or something like that. if you reset my current progress to the beginning i would be completely lost and have no idea how to build up my following again because everything that has gotten me to where i am now involves not only being lucky with meeting certain people, but somehow having these people approach me first when i dont even really interract socially online anyway and never have done in any reasonably-sized capacity (i don't think this page counts). it really makes me think of all the millions of incredible artists out there who just don't get off the ground because they don't care about the social element as much as they may care about people somehow being able to come in contact with and appreciate their output. but anyway, id say that channel was just me trying to have some place where i put my content and hoping it would somehow take off without ever actually talking to anyone

as much as i was aware of the online horror stuff as a kid (to a very limited extent) i am honestly and pretty awfully versed in it. main things i was doing as a kid online back in those days was just watching gameplay videos of various games i was into at the time (guitar hero, mario kart wii) and like... flipnote studio stuff and early meme shit i guess. i remember reading sonic.exe around 2009 or something and thinking it was real even though there were things in it that were obviously not possible or something like that (like the sonic plushie on the bed at the end) and i could be misremembering but i think i was irritated at the fact it wasnt real. i think as a kid i just wasnt really interested in much fictional reading or horror because if it didnt 'actually happen' i thought whats the point. looking back i might have only played games for the sheer gameplay element and not caring about the story at all (even if i cried hard at certain parts in video games, like at the end of sonic adventure when your character defeats eggman and you're falling out of the sky and get saved), which manifested in me being interested in online multiplayer games ONLY from ages 12-17 because i only cared about showing how good i was at a thing to other people online. i was playing cod4 then csgo absolutely non-stop. the only reason i would play a singleplayer game was if i could somehow display the achievements i had gotten from it, fuck being actually fulfilled internally by a thing (like for instance, i played through all of 'LYNE' so i could spell something out on my steam profile using the achievement icons, since they were letters of the alphabet, even though i genuinely enjoyed playing it). i was pathetic. sorry this is massively off track, but it kinda reveals reasoning as to why even though i may seem like i know quite a lot about the 00s-10s internet i really dont because i spent basically all of it playing one video game after another for years and ONLY that. i would discover things only by virtue of constantly being in thriving gaming communities and i would see the things they shared. but, after all that useless rambling, i know ted the caver and it's very good.

oh god, the only one i can think of is shadow saying didnt even break a sweat, im sure theres some other tiny samples from who-knows-what video game in there. i think the tom drums might be from yoshis island? where did the track title for tobias come from? it fits really well for some reason
back in the days when i was a cod4 pc gamer kid, i was in various gaming communities and as you can imagine you meet a lot of other extremely loudmouth raging people there who are always quick to flame, but i remember this one guy who's gamertag was just 'tobias' frequented this promod crash 24/7 server i played on a lot, and i was so charmed and refreshed by how he played the game and spoke eloquently and in good measure and was in general the antithesis to what i was used to, plus the name 'tobias' i just found lovely and trustworthy in that moment, a real air of honesty to it. so i had wanted to make a track called tobias for a long time in memory of that, but it had to be really good, and that spontaneous live mix which you hear as the final product on the album basically saved 247 365 for me since it gave me the momentum to finish the rest of the tracks i had at the time (i was really running on empty). fwiw i felt like that the time tobias was absolutely far and away the show-stealer and the most honest track there in the sense that none of it is forced and i was so thankful it came along that way so i had to assign the name tobias to that one

I know it seems a bit weird that I'm asking a bunch of questions related to albums/songs that you've deleted, but the reason why I'm particularly interested in them is because I've listened to some of the deleted albums that have resurfaced recently like "Sand In Your Eye" and "Naked Flames Who Can Recall His Past Lives", and I don't really hold them in low regards. As a matter of fact, there are a few Past Lives tracks that I genuinely like such as "A Nice Mutual Friendship" and "Relatives Talking in the Other Room". Hearing those albums have also made me curious about your musical progress over the years and that's also mainly the reason why I'm interested in hearing your other deleted releases someday. it's a fantastic website which to me acted as a superb gateway to me for discovering so many wonderful things, as well as the fact i owe its existence for me getting my feet off the ground with regards to finding any audience i had outside of my little youtube circle. i dont use it anymore since i guess i just discover things in a different way now and i was never any part of 'the community' (whatever that is, i dont know, there's probably loads of communities on there i was never aware of) and the whole discovery/listmaking aspect lost its charm and just wasnt for me anymore. another reason is that while using it i was always tempted to check my own page which for me is never a good idea since it's bound to make an impression on me and it would implicitly dictate how i should go about doing things to appease whoever was listening on that site. i figured if i just focus on myself and not pay any attention to stats (anywhere, not just on rym) it would do me a lot of good, and that paid off handsomely for me thankfully - to the point where obviously in the back of my mind i wonder about 'how successful' my stuff is, but i never get tempted to see figures and numbers cuz i know it's a dark rabbit hole for me. one could argue it's wise to look at this stuff if you really care about the growth aspect, and i do in part, but not enough for it to supercede the internal feeling accomplishment and drive i get just from making stuff in the first place. when i joined no agreements halfway through 2020 i was still incredibly active on rym (not sure what this means either really - does active mean you are engaging with anyone? cuz i sure as hell wasn't doing that) and excitedly looking at my own ratings and stuff and even in the back of my head it was sort of a thrill thinking it was cool people who maybe knew me on there were listening to my music, let alone enjoying it. but in the discord i kept hearing so so many people whine about rym and the problems with its community or how it trivialises music consumption and makes it performative or something like that, which were sort of difficult points to argue against for me because i just didnt give a fuck what other people on the site were up to (unless they were listening to my stuff lmao) and how people acted on there at that point just didnt corrode at the idea that it was still just a great tool for me and only me to find things i like. who the fuck cares if someone said something was overrated or put a weird genre tag on something or basically anything anyone did, because i just wanted to find music and rym was allowing me to do that in spades. so the fact i kept hearing everyone get annoyed at it left a bad taste in my mouth because like..... it felt like they were letting themselves get upset and doing nothing to avoid it or just enjoy the sheer bliss of stumbling across something you end up loving and holding dear thanks to a wee search tool? i never ever understood why the social aspect has to be brought into it as if rym is a social network or whatever. let it be known i'm not having a go at you if you think this way or have your differing opinions or anything like that, please for the love of god don't think i'm 'above' you or anything like that, i'm simply saying i never understood this stuff because the social side of basically anything never really got through to me. as far as im concerned it's just me and the search tool. i always think how YOU feel about something if it's positive outweighs the external shite, as long as you aren't going on about it and somehow making things worse for people right? like they have an option for turning comment boxes off if you don't want to see them (yes, i get that it may be hard to do this because you still want to see what people are talking about and maybe feel in the loop and see others opinions, fuck sake that's kind of how the entire site operates, but like..... let your hair down mate its not a big deal). another thing (i probably should have made this a voice clip) is that there's no denying that particularly no agreements in the beginning of the rise to gaining a much larger audience operated within the rym circles, and labels need listeners and money to continue, so you obviously need to stay in touch with what's going on - that's one case where clearly you can't just operate within a vacuum, and if you have your entire (at the time) listener-base on a site in which people can very readily critique what you're doing, that shit can get neurotic fast, surely.
tl;dr i think its an absolutely superb site and so many people must have discovered and continue to discover things that changed their life on there, but nowadays finding my own way around discovering stuff suits me better (for now!! who knows if later it feels right to start using it again)

honestly not really. dont ever really have a hard time with fl studio 9 acting weird on me. one thing that comes to mind is when i loaded a soundfont and the entire program glitched the fuck out and instruments would just pop in and out randomly and some channels played the notes of other channels with random notes being sustained, which i turned into freakish live mix on one of the hunter gatherer tracks

track 5 interpolates a track from 2015 i made originally called 'have a very merry xmas' later renamed and redone as 'drawing a parallel' as well as a piano track called 'relatives talking in the other room' which was a recording of mine made in 2017. the actual forming of the tracks only took place during a few months at the end of 2021 and some a bit later in early 2022, with melodies that i had been meaning to find a home for since around 2018
oh and i forgot to mention track 6 samples a track i made in 2015 as well

i fucking wish i could use Arch Linux for everything but i just dont have the time to invest making my current workflow work with it, i adore the sublime levels of control you get when you know what you're doing with it and i always use my arch vm when doing anything besides making music or any media for that matter, but well, doing that stuff if like 99% of what i do. yes i know i could probably bottle all the software i use and either wine emu them or whatever that other package is called that is really good at running natively windows/mac stuff but windows 10 is fine for what it is with how i use it and what i use on it, like all the prosumer software shite. anything debian is just fine by me too since thats what i use all the time at my work but arch is wonderful if you have the time and patience (which unfortunately i dont think i have enough of). same reasons i also like typescript a lot i think

i always attempt to quell pressure by making it so i KNOW for certain that no one could give two fucks about what im doing, and i make conscious efforts to avoid all stats and that shite. looking at those is just signing yourself a death wish. so it puts me at peace KNOWING that everyone thinks what im doing is entirely forgettable and useless as a contribution to the world in any way; this keeps me doing it for myself which is the most gratifying way of course. this obviously brings copious side effects - one of the main ones being that all compliments fall completely flat on their faces in front of me before i allow them to get into my head and to my heart to ultimately warm it up, which can make things pretty lonesome at times, but its worth it just for me to allow myself to keep my head down. disciplining this thought exercise means i cant at all see any value in myself and has the knock on effect of making promoting onesself almost impossible (since you're basically shouting to the world's people that they should actively waste time engaging with this useless tripe) and i cant see any value in myself in the external world as a consequence but, and i cant stress this enough, the love of making things and walking around the world feeling inspired to do things and get busy with learning and understanding makes every trade-off so so worth it. i really can't emphasise this enough. seems kinda counter-intuitive that i would have a questions page if im actively avoiding this sort of interaction elsewhere but with it being entirely anonymous allows me to delude myself that ive just set up a machine that sometimes chucks questions at me and i answer them and off it goes into the void. you couldn't convince me that anyone asking a question here is actually returning to the page to read the answer
